Today we celebrate and honor our moms! Some of us are fortunate enough to still have ours in our presence today, while others will remember theirs with a special tribute or memory of all they loved and learned while mom was present on earth. But there are also those women in our lives whom are not our mothers by birth, but also have played an instrumental role in our upbringing. Those ladies who’ve been there for me are my aunts! They have formulated my life in ways they may not have realized until they read this post today. So, while I honor my mom today and always, I also want to give a big shout out to my other “moms” whom I affectionately call Aunt Cindy and Aunt Susie.
Yes, it’s the eve of the 28th anniversary of my 21st birthday or what others may claim as the age of 49.
Doesn’t matter how often I type it, write it, say it out loud, I’m having trouble believing I’m going to be 49 years old on March 2nd. That in another 364 days, I will turn 50. Fifty…half a decade. Where did the time go? As young teens, do you recall telling your parents how you wished you were older, so you could run your own house the way you desired, and not live under the strict rules your parent set for you? Of course, their reply would always lead to…”don’t wish your life away.” Pfft – yeah, what did they know any way? Continue reading
Esther Cleona Holtzinger – Mom and Grandma Extraordinaire.
Many of you know and have heard of my grandfather, John Edward “Ted” Holtzinger. A successful Altoona businessman, publisher, writer, developer, farmer. The list goes on and on of his many accomplishments in life, but what about the woman who sat beside him? Continue reading
If there is one word that comes to mind year after year, that one word to describe what has occurred over the last 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 8760 hours…is the word CHANGE.
Change is scary … it’s the fear of the unknown, fear that the outcomes of change will create instability in the stable life we think we have at that moment. Yet, while our fears of change consume us, they also paralyze us from thinking about the new opportunities change will bring to us or that the changes we face will open our paths to something richer, brighter, better than that of the past. And, sure change could bring something we do not want to face, yet even in the darkest of change comes opportunity to grow, learn, and sometimes the need to say goodbye.
Today started out as any typical day starts for me. Awake, feed the cats, shower, get dressed, stop at Dunkin’ Donuts for my daily iced tea pick me up, get into work and begin my work day. Then at 10:30am it was time to log off the computer and head to DuBois for a client lunch meeting, but before I could leave town, I would need to gas up the 4Runner. So on my way out of town, I stopped at the local gas station that pumps gas for you. It was raining, and I didn’t feel like getting out of the car to pump it myself.
After the attendant finishes pumping the gas, I hand him my debit card to pay. Like any other time, I don’t put my debit card back in my purse, but rather sit it in the ashtray area of my console to put back in my purse when I get to DuBois. Generally, my purse sits next to me, but this time I had a passenger, so my purse was in the back, and I didn’t feel like reaching around to get my wallet to replace the card in it.
Another ten cards down, one more month to go and I will have 50 cards ready for the holidays. Actually, I will have more cards than that as I’ve dabbled in a couple of other designs throughout this time, so I will probably have somewhere in the vicinity of 70 cards when all is said and done. And, with all of this early prep I’ve done, and then the new Stampin’ Up! Holiday catalog. UGH!!!! I’m going to go broke.
What is Makeover Monday? Well, as I’ve mentioned in a number of my previous post, I have a habit of getting up on a Sunday morning and perusing YouTube in search of card making tutorials. I find myself getting lost in the search and watch video after video. There’s been a number of times when I’ve rushed down to my stamping room in my basement to create something I just viewed. Sometimes what I watched gives me inspiration to create something of my own and other times I CASE the card I just watched on video.
Well, I’m a day late in posting my Monthly Holiday Card Stash series. Sorry about that, but I had a really hectic day yesterday filled with appointments and celebrations to attend, and I literally just ran out of hours in my day.
So, this month I’m keeping it pretty basic. For months I’ve been coveting Stampin’ Up’s Mingle All the Way set. It’s been on the clearance rack for some time now, and each week I’d see it sitting there and think, I really want the Mingle All the Way stamp, but I’m not wild about the others. Do I really want to pay $14.99 for just that one stamp? And, my answer would always be a resounding NO!
Can you believe it, we are just 6 months or 19 Fridays from Christmas? How does the time fly by so fast? I still remember those days when I wished I was older, now I don’t wish that any longer. I want my days back as a youth, and for time to stand still for awhile!
With getting back into stamping more and perusing the ‘net looking for all the great ideas that are out there, I happened to land on a website/blog I had never visited before. And, boy did I lose track of time wondering around her site. Have any of you ever visited Catherine Pooler’s website? It’s phenomenal, and quite the inspiration (in more ways then one). I lost track of time looking at all her fabulous ideas and watched several videos on techniques and various card layouts. In fact came across two I marked down to do as part of my holiday card series, I liked them that much.
Sorry for the lengthy absence in between posts. It’s been a little crazy at work lately, and my free time seems to get sucked up with me doing more work from home or I’m just too tuckered out to play. I have though been progressing in getting my monthly holiday cards ready, in fact I’ve designed all the cards through September, now it’s just a matter of going back and making the 10 cards for each month and then take photos and set up the blog posts. But it’s so exciting to know I will have my holiday cards all done this year. And most importantly, way ahead of schedule. So stay tuned…Thursday the 25th is reveal day!!
